Gustatory Mechanisms for Neural Signaling in Rats

چکیده

The current research presented in this review is important for understanding the least well known sensory system of taste and broadening what is already known about gustatory neural coding. The ways in which we value food can be more fully understood through research of the neural coding from basic taste sensations into the forebrain insular cortex areas where we give meaning to the substances we ingest and how this impacts our physiology. Peripheral and central nervous system afferent cells are known to play a role in the neural coding process based on specialist and generalists categories of neural responses to various taste qualities in the NST. Projections from the NST to the PbN provide evidence for the second relay pathway of the gustatory system to show that the taste signals converge into higher-order cortex areas for greater discrimination and better processing of taste information. Conclusions that have been made for lower levels of the gustatory relay are then applied to the fourth order gustatory relay in the thalamus in order to find any evidence for activity that gustatory neurons types found in the NST and PbN are also present in the level of the thalamus. Research surrounding the insular cortex is highly involved with the formation of taste preferences and memories that share influences with other limbic forebrain areas. The present paper follows as an accumulation of the current critical research that has been conducted on the mechanisms in the gustatory system that proceed from the NST, the PbN, the thalamus and the insular cortex for neural signaling in taste.

The effect of resistance training on PI3K/mTORc1 signaling in left ventricular of diabetes rats

Background: Clinical evidence points to the effective role of genetic factors and intracellular signaling pathways in physiological cardiac hypertrophy. This study aimed to assess the response of PI3K/mTORc1 signaling pathway in cardiac tissue to resistance training in obese diabetic rats. Materials and Methods: For this purpose, 21 male wistar rats (220±20 g) were obese by 6 weeks high fat di...

Alcohol activates a sucrose-responsive gustatory neural pathway.

A strong positive association exists between the ingestion of alcohol and sweet-tasting solutions. The neural mechanisms underlying this relationship are unknown, although recent data suggest that gustatory substrates are involved. Here, we examined the role of sweet taste receptors and central neural circuits for sugar taste in the gustatory processing of ethanol. Taste responses to ethanol (3...

The Expression of FOS during Sham Sucrose Intake in Rats with Central Gustatory Lesions

xxx: Rxxx-Rxxx, 2008. For humans and rodents, ingesting sucrose is rewarding. This experiment tested the prediction that the neural activity produced by sapid sucrose reaches reward systems via projections from the pons through the limbic system. Gastric cannulas drained ingested fluid before absorption. For 10 days, the rats alternated an hour of this sham ingestion between sucrose and water. ...

Hypothalamus Pituitary Adrenal axis and stimulatory G proteins signaling role in nociceptive changes induced by forced swim stress

Introduction: Different mechanisms are involved in stress induced analgesia (SIA) and hyperalgesia (SIH). Repeated stress induces development of tolerance to SIA. The role of HPA axis and Gs signaling pathway in these effects are investigated in the current study. Methods: Forced swim stress (5 min/day) in water (20±1 ºC) was employed to adult male Wistar rats (200-250 g). The nociceptive t...

Repeated sodium depletion affects gustatory neural responses in the nucleus of the solitary tract of rats.

Furosemide sodium depletions were induced repeatedly to determine the effects on gustatory neural responses in the nucleus of the solitary tract (NST) of chronically prepared, but lightly anesthetized, rats. Sodium-replete and sodium-deplete conditions were alternated four times in each rat. When rats were under depleted conditions, the responses to NaCl were significantly greater than in sodiu...
